Though we are not heir to a long history of puppetry, it is one of our nation’s identities.  Puppetry is the making and manipulation of puppets for use in some kind of theatrical show to entertain the audience.

The UNESCO has declared March 21^st as the World Puppetry Day for the promotion of puppetry art. The department of Cultural Affairs has taken steps to commemorate this day each year to showcase the talents of the artistes in this field and for the conservation and promotion of the puppetry field in Sri Lanka.
