A contributory pension scheme for artistes was commenced by the Department of Cultural Affairs as per the Budget Proposals 2016. The objective is to give a professional recognition and social security to the Sri Lankan artistes who have contributed for the advancement of arts in Sri Lanka.

This is a joint program implemented with the Social Security Board for the artistes in the age group of 23-55 years who have actively engaged in the field of arts for more than 5 years and who are not entitled to any other state run pension.

A sum of Rs. 50,000 per person is allocated as the contribution from the state on the date he/she joins the Pension Scheme.
