Ediriweera Sarachchandra Drama Training and Research Institute,which is commonly known as Drama Training School was established on 11th March 2015 with the intervention of the Department of Cultural Affairs to commemorate Professor EdiriweeraSarachchandrawho has rendered a great service for drama and literary arts in Sri Lanka. The objective of establishing of this Institute is to provide a platform for the youth of the schools in the suburbs of the institute and the Universities, teachers, artistes and other personnel to have concourse on the art of drama and various other subject scoops.

A number of varied programs are being implemented to achieve the prime objectives of establishing this Institute through transforming this place into a location where the community can gain knowledge on various arts subjects. Artistes, scholars and the officers of the Department of Cultural Affairs serve as resources persons.

Key objectiveof establishing the institute

To develop as an effective and most attractive cultural promotion center that could transmit the intellectual experience and the value of appreciation, nourishing the Sri Lankan people’s sentiment, focusing mainly the communities that live in the suburbs of the Institute.

Objectives to be achieved

  • Direct intervention for the advancement of Sri Lankan art of drama by serving as a center for drama based training and education.
  • Impart knowledge on other art media and compilation of programs that build up personal sentiments. This will directly intervene to generate a sensible generation with the power of appreciation.
  • To transform the center as a place to assist the upcoming artistes to develop their experience and to showcase their talents.
  • To develop better attitudes on arts, literature and culture among the community and to prepare targeted programs to draw their attention towards the above.
