Cinema and the Short film fields are rapidly developing with the technical developments in the world. Today the Hollywood and the Bollywood cinema are the most powerful income deriving industries in the world. In this backdrop, the Sri Lankan cinema industry which has a history of nearly 60 decades is in a state of struggling to find a foot since its inauguration. The short film industry in the world is gradually developing and its status in Sri Lanka has retained by having international recognition in the awards ceremonies held abroad. Therefore, it is imperative to launch programs for the promotion of the short film industry in Sri Lanka.

The State Advisory Council of Cinema which was established in 2019 by the Arts Council of Sri Lanka, under the Department of Cultural Affairs functions for the promotion of the Sri Lankan cinema and the short film industry.

“Samprasada” short film festival was held very recently and the awards are given under the following categories.

  • Best Short Film – First, Second and Third Places
  • Best Director
  • Best Script
  • Best Actor
  • Best Actress
  • Best camera artiste
  • Best Editing
