State Ballet and Puppetry advisory board

With the political, economic and social awakening in 1956 known as “Fifty Six Revolution” the Department of Cultural Affairs was established to bring about regaining in Sri Lankan culture and to restore the nationality destroyed by colonialism , It could be seen that the subject of performance arts has been advanced  from the rural Arts school up to the University level.

A team of dancers has also been produced under the Department of Cultural Affairs Eminent musicologist W.B. Makuloluwa, Captain Delwala and Dr. Panibharata  were the pioneers in this venture.

Current Panel consists of three main parts

  • Dance
  • Ballet
  • Puppetry

Many programmes are held annually in association with these sectors

  • National Dance Festival
  • Commemoration of World Dance Day.
  • National Ballet Festival
  • Commemoration of World Puppetry Day.
  • National Drumming Festival.
  • Studies,conferences and workshops on Folk Drama, Rural Drama and Masks Art.
  • Programmes for reconstitution of Sokery, Kolam and Folk Drama.
  • Appreciation of service of eminent persons who  rendered their service to Dance, Puppetry and Ballet and granting awards to them.
  • Holding workshops on dance associated with estate culture and folk drama.
